Caregiver Support

Caregivers are family members, loved ones or friends who provide care for Veterans living with the effects of war, disability, chronic illness or aging. For information, call the VA National Caregiver Support Line at 1-855-260-3274 or read more about our local Caregiver Support services.

Chaplain Service

The Chaplain Service is for veterans, their families and VA staff. Chaplains visit patients, conduct religious services, counsel patients and family members and respond to emergencies. Chaplains are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Read more about our Chaplain Service.

Daycare Centers

Brooklyn Child Care, Inc. and Imagine Vets Kids are open to the public and provide quality child care at affordable prices. Summer programs and emergency back-up child care are available. Read more about the two VA NY Harbor Healthcare System Daycare Centers.

Emergency Department

The primary mission of the Emergency Department is to serve our nation’s veterans with the highest quality emergency medical, surgical and psychiatric care. Read more about our Emergency Department.

Geriatric Research, Education & Clinical Center (GRECC)

The GRECCs are "centers of excellence" designed for the advancement and integration of research, education and clinical achievements in geriatrics and gerontology into the total VA healthcare system. The VISN 3 GRECC is headquartered at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx and is affiliated with Mount Sinai School of Medicine and its Department of Geriatrics and Adult Development. Health Promotion and Disease Prevention

Home Based Primary Care

Our primary care program offers an extensive range of treatments with an emphasis on health care prevention. Read more about our primary care program.

Homeless Veterans Treatment Program

The homeless veterans treatment program at the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System provides a continuum of care which includes outreach, case management, a drop-in center, residential treatment, supported work therapy and either transitional or permanent housing. Hoptel Units

The Brooklyn Campus provides free temporary lodging to eligible veterans receiving VHA health care services. Read more about our hoptel units.

Hospice and Palliative Care

Hospice and Palliative Care provides the best possible quality of life for our veterans with advanced illness by relieving suffering, controlling symptoms, restoring functional capacity and providing grief and bereavement support to veterans and their families. Library

Mental Health

The Mental Health Intensive Case Management Program (MHICM) purpose is to help veterans who have had a history of mental illness to maintain themselves in the community to the best of their ability. Read more about our Mental Health Program.

Pharmacy

Our pharmacy processes more than 5000 prescriptions daily. Prescriptions may be refilled by mail, phone, or online. Read more about our Pharmacy services.

Returning Service Members/Readjustment

Social Work

St. Albans Community Living Center

The St. Albans Community Living Center serves the metropolitan area with specialized geriatric care. The Center’s services include extended care rehabilitation, psycho-geriatric care, general nursing home care, and a domiciliary providing psychosocial and independent living skills rehabilitation. Outpatient services have been offered at St. Albans for over 20 years. Read more about St. Albans.

Veterans Justice Outreach

The purpose of the Veteran Justice Outreach Initiative (VJO) initiative is to avoid the unnecessary criminalization of mental illness and extended incarceration among Veterans by ensuring that eligible justice-involved Veterans have timely access to VHA mental health and substance abuse services when clinically indicated, and other VA services and benefits as appropriate. Visual Impairment Service Team Program (VIST)
