The intensity was palpable. The Veterans, many of whom have been participants in a weekly Vietnam PTSD group led for years by Steve Grossman, LCSW, met up with a group of nine graduate students in the physical therapy doctoral program at Touro college. The purpose was to give the soon to be professional clinicians the opportunity to meet with older Veterans so that the students could hone their interviewing skills.

Both Dr. Shira Weiner, the professor who brought her students to VA Manhattan for the voluntary training session on a day when students did not have class and Mr. Grossman commented how this year, for the third time, the experience was very meaningful to students and Veterans. “Our students are very committed to learning from the patients about how they can improve their intake interview stills and the Veterans acknowledge the value their participation gives to the training session,” said Dr. Weiner.
