VA NY Harbor Healthcare System offers a comprehensive program of Mental Health (MH ) services that are recovery oriented and Veteran-centered. Our program addresses a wide spectrum of MH needs across the range of MH settings, including emergency services, inpatient and residential care, intensive and other outpatient care. We focus in particular on MH issues of concern to Veterans such as PTSD, military sexual trauma (MST), traumatic brain injury (TBI), substance abuse, and psychosocial recovery aimed at helping Veterans return to meaningful and productive lives in their community.

These services and the geographic locations where they are provided within VA NY Harbor Healthcare System are as follows:

  • Emergency Department psychiatric evaluation – Brooklyn and Manhattan
  • Inpatient acute psychiatry - Brooklyn and Manhattan
  • Residential Treatment (psychosocial recovery and substance abuse) – Brooklyn
  • Outpatient Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery (partial hospitalization) – Brooklyn
  • Opiate Treatment Program (Methadone Maintenance) – Manhattan
  • Ambulatory Substance Abuse Treatment, including buprenorphine treatment - Brooklyn and Manhattan
  • PTSD treatment - All campuses, with special focus programs at Brooklyn and Manhattan
  • Outpatient general MH clinics – Brooklyn, Manhattan, St. Albans, and Staten Island
  • Primary Care Integrated Mental Health (MH in primary care settings) – Brooklyn, Manhattan, St. Albans
  • Compensated Work Therapy and Supportive Employment - Brooklyn and Manhattan
  • Homeless program (all sites)
  • MH intensive case management - All sites
  • Peer managed clubhouses - Brooklyn and Manhattan
  • Neuropsychological Assessment – Brooklyn, Manhattan, and St. Albans
